Postdoc Fellowship Program

Description

Zapata Computing seeks exceptional researchers for a two-year postdoc fellowship program. We
are hiring creative, curious, and inventive problem solvers wishing to push forward their academic
careers alongside our premier team of quantum scientists, researchers, and programmers.
At Zapata, we are breaking ground in the emerging area of practical quantum algorithms. As a Z-Fellow you will contribute to our dynamic, highly collaborative, and cross-disciplinary research environment. We ensure our team has hands-on access to the best quantum hardware from both academic and commercial partners. We also support our team with ample classical computing resources from a high-end laptop to near unlimited cloud compute resources.

You will build and lead independent research projects with a focus on publishing in leading academic journals. We also anticipate that you will spend time applying for postdoc and faculty positions in your second year. While we believe your research will ultimately generate commercial value, you will not be assigned to commercial projects or be expected to participate directly in commercial activities. Day to day, Zapata seeks to enable large tracts of uninterrupted time with high focus and ample rest in between. We believe that this, combined with opportunities for rich discussion and chalkboard time, is key for breakthrough science.

Example research areas include:

  • quantum computing with NISQ devices
  • quantum machine learning
  • Hamiltonian simulation
  • quantum computing for quantum chemistry
  • quantum error correction
  • quantum characterization, verification, and validation
  • approximation algorithms
  • combinatorial optimization

To apply, please email careers@zapatacomputing.com with the following material:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Cover letter: introduce yourself and explain why you believe working at Zapata would enhance your research
  • Contact information of three references
  • Brief statement motivating a potential research project or area you wish to pursue (~one paragraph)
